Oscar VillelaLooking for a job that would pay well and allow him to support his family, Oscar Villela decided to become an electrician. However, he soon found that the money and the lifestyle wasn’t quite what he had expected. After considering his options, he realized that a career as a professional driver would be a perfect fit.
“I like being out on the open road and not being cooped up inside a building all day,” said Oscar. “I worked as a professional driver at a couple of other companies before starting at Con-way Freight, and I think they’re the best company to drive for. They hire good people and the benefits are great. I definitely enjoy working here.”
Oscar says the key to being a safe driver is being aware that there are many different types of drivers on the road, and being prepared to react quickly when the unexpected happens. He said this is what has kept him safe for two million miles behind the wheel.
“Reaching two million miles really is quite an accomplishment,” said Oscar. “I don’t think there are many people that can say they’ve done that, and I’m really proud to have reached it. Now I’m working toward hitting the three-million-mile mark!”
A resident of El Paso, Texas, Oscar is based out of Con-way Freight’s El Paso service center. He has been married for 33 years to his wife, Aida. Oscar has three children: Oscar, Ivan and Aida; and six grandchildren: Oscar, 9; Ricardo, 6; Ivana, 5; Julian, 3; Jovana, 3; and Joshua, three months. In his spare time he enjoys restoring classic cars, and is currently working on a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air.
