Two Million Mile Safe Drivers

Being a professional driver was something Driver Sales Representative Keith Rose always knew he wanted to do. After a short time working in a factory, he decided to make the switch to driving, which he has now been doing for more than 20 years. A lot has changed in that time, but for Keith the biggest difference is the volume of vehicles on the road.

“There are just so many more cars and trucks on the road these days than there were when I started out driving,” said Keith. “As a result, I find that I really have to pay close attention and drive defensively.”

Keith says that the most important thing motorists can do to keep the roads safe for everyone is to give trucks plenty of room. He says that too many motorists will ride alongside a truck for long periods of time, or cut too closely in front of a truck, not giving the driver much time to react.

“Motorists on the road need to realize that it takes trucks longer to slow down and stop, because of their size and weight,” said Keith. “People need to be aware of that, and give truck drivers a little more space and time to react.”

When asked what he credits for reaching two million miles of accident-free driving, Keith mentions being well-rested and driving defensively.

“I just try to always be safe,” said Keith. “Drivers who are safety conscious and really pay attention to what they’re doing when they get behind the wheel will eventually reach a milestone like two million miles. It takes a long time to do it, but you reach it by just taking one day at a time, and by operating in a safe manner every single day.”

A resident of Wilkesboro, N.C., Keith is based out of Con-way Freight’s Winston-Salem, N.C., service center. He has been married for seven years to his wife, Melody, and has one daughter: Amanda, 5. His hobbies include fishing.
