Company is First Ever Logistics Provider Honored by Lam in Global Program Citing Exemplary Performance
SAN MATEO, Calif. - April 03, 2007
Menlo Worldwide, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW) and global provider of logistics, transportation management and supply chain services, today announced that it has received a Supplier Excellence Award for 2006 from Lam Research. This marks the first time the Fremont, Calif.-based supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services has recognized a logistics provider in its global program citing exemplary supplier performance.
“It is truly an honor to be the first logistics company to win a Lam Supplier Excellence Award,” said Robert L. Bianco, Jr., president, Menlo Worldwide. “We are proud of our partnership with Lam and the continuous improvements and operating cost reductions we have achieved together. It’s particularly noteworthy that we received this honor in a year which witnessed such dramatic growth in Lam’s business – and a parallel ramp-up in the logistics operations managed by Menlo supporting that rapid growth.”
Menlo provides receiving, parts and component warehousing, and rapid-response order fulfillment to Lam factories, working against stringent just-in-time manufacturing schedules. The logistics operation achieved a 99.9 percent on-time delivery rate while supporting dramatic growth in activity with consistent service levels as volumes increased throughout 2006.
The company accomplished the performance goals through flexible, fast-response resource management, which enabled Menlo to scale operations quickly in response to manufacturing demand. The company also instituted programs to improve process efficiency, reduce waste and apply new technologies to enhance customer satisfaction. Overall, Menlo’s operations for Lam in 2006 accommodated a double-digit increase in volume while reducing logistics costs from the previous year. Menlo was one of only six firms chosen from a base of more than 200 suppliers which Lam honored for excellence this year.
Founded in 1980, Lam Research Corporation is a major supplier of wafer fabrication equipment and services to the world’s semiconductor industry. Headquartered in Fremont, Calif., Lam maintains a network of facilities throughout the United States, Asia and Europe to meet the complex and changing needs of its global customer base.
