Company Expands Relationship with World Leader in Automotive Supply Industry
SAN MATEO, Calif. - April 30, 2009
Menlo Worldwide Logistics, the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that it has been selected by Dana México Corporacion S. de R.L. de C.V., the Mexico-based operations of Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN), to provide transportation management services.
Under the agreement, Menlo will manage the company’s intra-Mexico freight movements and cross-border transportation of inbound and outbound components and finished goods to U.S. and Canadian customers. The new services represent an expansion of Menlo’s existing relationship with the automotive supply leader, which also includes managing inbound and outbound shipments throughout North America and provide logistics cost analysis and control.
“We chose Menlo to manage our transportation function in Mexico because of their demonstrated success meeting our needs in the rest of North America,” said Michaella Schaller, director of global logistics, Dana. “With Menlo, we benefit from their application of Lean methodologies to cut costs and we gain a single-source solution that provides seamless visibility into our entire North American network. We’ve been very pleased with Menlo’s flexibility and commitment to service throughout our work together.”
Dana México’s manufacturing operations span facilities in Mexico City, Toluca, Monterrey, Chihuahua and Queretaro. A Menlo team located on-site at Dana’s logistics headquarters in Queretaro manages the transportation, complemented by a small freight audit team based at Menlo’s Guadalajara supply chain office. Menlo’s proprietary logistics management system (LMS) provides web-based control and visibility, and order entry capabilities to all locations for all moves. Additionally, Menlo is responsible for interacting with customs brokers to set priorities for shipments and optimizing trailer utilization to deliver more efficient scheduling.
“Our well-established relationship with Dana has brought us deep understanding of their supply chain and ways to maximize the savings potential within it,” said Robert L. Bianco Jr., president, Menlo Worldwide Logistics. “We look forward to continuing to provide that service and increasing our role even further in the future.”
Dana is a world leader in the supply of axles and drive shafts, and structural, sealing and thermal-management products, as well as genuine service parts.
