Con-way Freight-Southern Receives Prestigious ATA Safety Awards
ANN ARBOR, MI - August 15, 2006
Con-way Freight, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), announced today that its regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier, Con-way Freight-Southern received the American Trucking Associations (ATA) President’s Trophy for its low incidence of vehicle and employee accidents. The Ft. Worth-based company won the same award in 2002 and has won the award again in its first year of eligibility.
Con-way Freight-Southern also received a second award for fewest accidents by placing first in the General Commodities LTL/Local Division Over 100 Million Miles category.
To be eligible for the awards the company’s safety record, safety training and preventive programs are evaluated and audited by the ATA’s Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council. Bob Orwig, director of safety for Con-way Freight-Southern will accept the awards on behalf of the company at the council’s annual meeting in September.
