Con-way Names Veteran Executive to Lead Global Policy Efforts

David L. Miller joins parent company as vice president, global policy and economic sustainability

SAN MATEO, Calif. - August 18, 2008

Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) announced today that David L. Miller has been named Vice President, Global Policy and Economic Sustainability.

Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) announced today that David L. Miller has been named Vice President, Global Policy and Economic Sustainability.

A veteran of more than 30 years in freight transportation, Mr. Miller assumes responsibility for directing all of Con-way’s strategies and programs related to legislative, regulatory, public policy and corporate sustainability affairs at local, state, national and international levels.

Mr. Miller joins Con-way’s corporate executive staff from Con-way Freight, where since 2007 he served as chief operating officer for the company’s less-than-truckload business unit and largest subsidiary. He reports to Douglas W. Stotlar, Con-way’s president and CEO

“Successful public policies should protect the interests of our employees and communities, while encouraging practices that sustain our business and our stewardship of the environment,” said Stotlar. “Dave Miller’s operational experience and industry expertise make him uniquely qualified to lead our expanded efforts in this arena. He will be a credible voice and a strong advocate across the governmental executive, legislative and regulatory policy forums that will affect our business and our future.”

Working with Mr. Miller on Con-way’s public policy advocacy programs will be C. Randal Mullett, Con-way’s Washington, D.C.-based vice president of public affairs and government relations. He will continue directing the company’s legislative and regulatory policy work in Washington, reporting to Mr. Miller, who remains based in Ann Arbor, Mich.

A 25-year Con-way employee, over his career Mr. Miller has been a regular contributor to legislative and regulatory policy-making activities involving all modes of the transportation sector. As a line operating executive, he has represented Con-way’s interests in testimony before Congressional committees and Presidential commissions, and has served as the company’s executive representative with the American Trucking Associations, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other trade groups.  He also has led the company’s programs and advocacy efforts promoting increased employer support for military veterans, the National Guard and Reserves.

Mr. Miller started his trucking industry career in 1972, joining Con-way in 1983 as a freight operations supervisor in Cincinnati, Ohio. He subsequently was promoted to service center manager, then region manager before being named director of quality in 1996, and vice president and director of strategic planning in 2000, based in Ann Arbor.  In 2003 he was promoted to president of Con-way Southern Express, one of Con-way’s three regional LTL carriers, in Fort Worth, Texas. He subsequently returned to Ann Arbor in 2005 to become president of Con-way Central Express, the company’s largest regional LTL operation. He assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer for the overall Con-way Freight organization in early 2007.

Mr. Miller’s replacement in the chief operating officer role at Con-way Freight will be the subject of a separate announcement.
