SAN MATEO, CA - January 17, 2006
CNF Inc. (NYSE:CNF) announced today that it has named Gary N. Frantz as Director of Corporate Communications.
Frantz is a 25-year veteran of the corporate public relations field who brings to CNF a diverse background and extensive experience running communications programs for transportation, international logistics and global supply chain technology firms.
He will manage corporate communications at CNF offices in San Mateo, CA, and will also be responsible for program development; management of media relations, and support for integrated communications programs throughout the CNF organization, with special emphasis on supporting Menlo Worldwide and Vector SCM.

Frantz joins CNF from Alameda, Calif.-based technology company GT Nexus, Inc. where since 2001 he has directed media and analyst relations, and customer communications programs.
Prior to GT Nexus he held a similar position at Capstan Systems Inc., an international trade logistics software company; and from 1998 to 2000 was communications director for Circle International Group Inc., an $800 million, NASDAQ-listed global freight forwarding, customs brokerage and logistics management concern.
Frantz previously worked for the CNF companies from 1987 to 1998, starting as public relations manager for Consolidated Freightways, Inc. and later becoming director of corporate communications for Con-Way Transportation Services. He began his public relations career with The Bechtel Corporation after working as a journalist.
A graduate of California State University, Chico, Frantz holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He is a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. In his new position he will report to Edward P. Moritz, vice president of marketing for CNF.
