Con-way Freight Names Bruce H. Moss as Vice President – Human Resources

30-Year Industry Veteran Assumes Key Executive Leadership Position, Succeeds Retiring Vice President Scott J. Engers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - January 07, 2009

Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier and the largest subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), announced today that Bruce H. Moss has been promoted to vice president, human resources.

A 30-year veteran of the freight transportation industry, Mr. Moss was previously Con-way Freight’s vice president, operations, central area. In his new role, he assumes responsibility for the strategic planning, development and direction of human resources activities and policies governing Con-way Freight’s 18,150-person workforce nationwide. He succeeds Scott J. Engers, who is retiring following a distinguished 25-year career with the company as its chief counsel and top employee relations executive.

Bruce Moss started his freight transportation career in 1978 with Carolina Freight Carriers in terminal operations and management.He joined the Con-way organization in 1990 with the former Con-way Southern Express as service center manager in Hickory, N.C. In 1991 he was named director of personnel and safety, and in 1995 became region manager for Con-way Southern in Charlotte, N.C.In 2000, Mr. Moss was promoted to vice president of sales for Con-way Central Express, Ann Arbor, Mich., becoming vice president-operations five years later. With the transformation of Con-way’s regional structure into a single operating company in 2007, he assumed responsibilities as the company’s vice president of operations, central area. Mr. Moss is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He remains located in Ann Arbor, reporting to Con-way Freight President John Labrie.

Paul Lorensen named Vice President, Operations, Central Area

Succeeding Mr. Moss as central area operations vice president is Paul Lorensen. A 20-year Con-way veteran, Mr. Lorensen was a member of the start-up team that launched Con-way Southwest Express in 1989, opening the company’s first service center in San Antonio, Texas. In 1992 he became assistant service center manager in Dallas, later advancing to service center manager at Fort Worth, Texas and Atlanta, Ga. He subsequently was promoted to region manager in Houston and later in Atlanta before moving to the general office as director of quality assurance. Prior to his current promotion, he was director of solutions engineering for Con-way Freight in Ann Arbor. Mr. Lorensen holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas.
