ANN ARBOR, MI - July 13, 2006
In 1996 Menlo Worldwide made a strategic decision to launch dedicated operations in Germany, placing a bet on the rapidly expanding market for pan-European third party logistics services and the potential for increased trade in an emerging European Union.
Ten years later, the company is celebrating a decade of service to the European business community. Its logistics center here has emerged as a proven resource that provides a wide range of receiving, inventory management, fulfillment, distribution and supply chain control services supporting industrial firms across the Continent.
“The European business community recognized early on the value of logistics outsourcing,” said Robert L. Bianco, Jr., president of Menlo Worldwide. “This strategic operation today provides value-added services for major automotive manufacturers throughout the region. It’s a key location for the global Menlo network.”
Menlo’s Hahn facility is a full-service logistics center, noted Bianco. As a major distribution hub for automotive manufacturing, the facility serves as a regional inventory management, warehousing and fulfillment center for its primary client, Continental Temic. Shipments are received from suppliers in the Philippines, Mexico, Hungary and Rumania, with the facility managing the receiving of thousands of shipments a month and staging of some 500 SKUs of electronic components, parts and sub-assemblies.
On the outbound side, the operation provides order processing, kitting and repacking, quality control, transportation management and quick-response fulfillment to some 30 manufacturing locations in Europe. Similar services are provided for other clients in other industries as well.
Germany is one of 20 countries where Menlo Worldwide has dedicated facilities, infrastructure and personnel providing rapid-response outsourced logistics services. Globally, the company’s network deploys over 12 million square feet of warehouse space, coupled with dedicated transportation management and fulfillment resources, providing flexibility to address today’s dynamic supply chain market. This flexibility is becoming increasingly critical as global enterprises struggle to manage and operate extended supply chains that must support manufacturing outsourced to different countries, rapid introduction of new products, continual repositioning of inventory and the demands of new and emerging markets.
“The European Community has emerged as a very large and diverse market in its own right,” said Todd Johnson, vice president of International for Menlo. “This facility is ideally suited for many traditional outsourcing roles where we can bring proven expertise and experience to help our clients reduce global logistics costs while improving service to end-use customers. We have a great history here and we’re very excited about our prospects for the future.”
