Con-way Named LTL Carrier of the Year by Wal-Mart

Company Also Honored for Leadership During Katrina Disaster

SAN MATEO, CA - May. 25, 2006 - Con-way Freight, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), was honored by Wal-Mart for its less-than-truckload service to the retailer’s stores and distribution centers and the company’s efforts while working with Wal-Mart during the Katrina hurricane.

The two recognitions were presented in April at Wal-Mart’s annual carrier conference by Tracy Rosser, vice president corporate traffic and Ken Braunbach, director of carrier relations for Wal-Mart. Con-way was the only less-than-truckload carrier honored.  Selection criteria for the Carrier of the Year award included daily on-time service performance, delivery coverage, transit times, flexibility, commitment and excellence. The second honor, Excellence in Servant Leadership, recognized Con-way Freight’s efforts in working with Wal-Mart to make numerous deliveries to affected disaster areas that otherwise would not have received much needed supplies. In one instance a Con-way tractor trailer met a Wal-Mart truck on a bridge where employees of both companies worked together to quickly transfer 100 electric generators to the Wal-Mart truck for final delivery.
