Inaugural G25 Index Recognizes Companies for Efficient and Eco-friendly Operations
SAN MATEO, Calif. - November 09, 2009
Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW) today announced that it has been named to Inbound Logistics’ inaugural 25 Green Supply Chain Partners (G25) list. The first annual index recognizes transportation companies that are implementing efficient, measurable sustainability programs. According to Inbound Logistics, the G25 represents the industry’s sustainable supply chain visionaries that are on the “cutting edge of green.” Click here to view the full list.
“Today the green movement has evolved to a point where companies are being held accountable for making significant and measurable contributions to the sustainability of the environment,” said David L. Miller, Con-way’s senior vice president, global policy and economic sustainability. “It’s an honor to know that Con-way is being included among the leading innovators in sustainability for the transportation industry and is being positioned as a role model in this ongoing journey of improvement.”
In early 2008, Con-way launched a formal sustainability program across its operating companies — Con-way Truckload, Con-way Freight and Menlo Worldwide Logistics — and at its trailer manufacturing division, Road Systems, Inc. (RSI). Sustainability highlights across the enterprise include:
Con-way Freight (SmartWay Transport Partner since 2006)
Con-way Truckload (SmartWay Transport Partner since 2005)
Menlo Worldwide Logistics (SmartWay Transport Partner since 2007)
RSI
“Working to shrink our carbon footprint in meaningful, tangible ways is a continuous process of improvement and waste reduction, not unlike Lean and Six Sigma methodologies,” added Miller. “Effective green initiatives can and should be founded in good business practice that achieves environmental goals while contributing to efficiency and the bottom line. It provides competitive advantage on several fronts while benefiting our customers and their sustainability strategies.”
