Company Takes First in the General Commodities LTL/Local/Over 100 Million Miles Class
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - October 22, 2009
Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), announced today that — for the third year in a row — it has won first place in its competition class in the 2009 American Trucking Associations (ATA) National Truck & Industrial Safety Contests. ATA’s Safety Management Council selected Con-way Freight as the winner in the General Commodities LTL/Local/Over 100 Million Miles category. The organization presented this year’s awards at its recent Safety & Human Resources National Conference & Exhibition in Baltimore.
Motor carriers from throughout the United States enter the ATA Truck & Industrial Safety Contests each year. The organization selects winners based on their safety records compared to fellow competition class entrants. Criteria include incident and lost workday case rates provided by the carriers.
“Winning first place in this prestigious national competition is a testament to the safe practices of our driver sales representatives,” said Robert G. Petrancosta, Con-way Freight’s vice president of safety. “Their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety on the roads every day has brought us this recognition, and it is a great honor to receive it.”
