Con-way Inc. Announces 2009 Scholarship Winners

Annual Grants Support Educational Goals of Outstanding Children of Employees

SAN MATEO, CA - October 26, 2009

Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW) today announced the latest recipients of educational grants through its annual scholarship program. This year’s Con-way Scholarship Program will help support the educational aspirations of 51 new and 105 continuing students who are children of the company’s employees.

The 2009-2010 program is awarding $60,000 in new and $118,300 in continuing scholarships. Recipients are full-time students who have a parent working for one of Con-way’s three principal operating companies: Con-way Freight, Con-way Truckload or Menlo Worldwide Logistics, or the company’s corporate and administrative organizations. The recipients are pursuing academic majors including education, engineering and pre-medicine.

Since the program’s launch in 1991, the company has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to employees’ children who have demonstrated outstanding academic, extracurricular and civic achievement.

“With challenging economic times and college costs on the rise, it has never been more important to support these promising children of our employees as they pursue their goals for higher education,” said Douglas W. Stotlar, Con-way’s president and CEO. “Helping these high-achieving young adults is a well-deserved reward for their hard work and their academic excellence. It’s an investment in the future that we are proud to make.”

Con-way’s scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America, a national nonprofit student aid organization. Students are eligible after a parent has been employed by Con-way for three consecutive years. Awards cover both college and technical school curricula, and are renewable for up to three years as the student completes a bachelor’s degree or vocational program.

The application period for the 2010-11 program opens on December 1, 2009 with the deadline for submittal on February 15, 2010. Employees who meet eligibility requirements can obtain a scholarship application for their children at the company’s intranet web site, or through their human resources representative.
