AMSTERDAM - September 17, 2009
Menlo Worldwide Logistics (Menlo), the global logistics subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced several key executive appointments that strengthen its management team in Europe and further develop its quality service to customers throughout the region.
Following his recent promotion to Managing Director, Europe, Tony Gunn has announced four new management appointments, including three new general managers, who will take responsibility for Menlo’s European operations. In addition, Arthur van Gerven has been appointed senior director, business development and key account management. In this new role, van Gerven will lead the expansion of Menlo’s customer base in Europe with the portfolio of 3PL, transportation management and 4PL services. In his previous position, van Gerven was director of operations for a number of European operations.
The three new general managers’ key objectives will be the continuation of operational excellence of the existing European operations, continue to support the Lean philosophy within the operations and support further growth in Europe.
Andre de Jong will take over responsibility for Menlo’s biggest multi-user site in Europe, located in Eersel, The Netherlands. This 35,000-square-meter warehouse and distribution center provides a wide range of services to multiple customers in different industries, such as apparel, footwear, health care and high tech.
Bas Schoone will take charge of Menlo’s operations in Central Europe (Germany, Czech-Republic and Hungary) and a high-tech site at the port of Rotterdam. These sites provide a wide range of value-added services across industry sectors.
Marco van Walraven, based in Amsterdam, will be responsible for a number of locations spreading across the Benelux, UK and Ireland, specifically in the high-tech industry sector.
By enlarging the executive management team and focusing control of the operational sites, the appointments will better enable Menlo to provide a stronger customer focus within its supply chain management services. Rapid changes to customer demands are increasingly evident, particularly in the challenging market conditions of the current economic climate. Customers are also keen to ensure that they are well-prepared to take advantage of any demand upturn in their particular markets. As Gunn explains, “At Menlo, we provide best-in-class, dedicated, multi-user warehouse services together with pan-European transport management services, and value-added services designed to best fit our logistics solution to the customer’s individual needs. I’m confident that in enhancing Menlo’s senior management structure, we will ensure we are in a better position for growth and to continue to deliver tailored solutions and services exceeding our customers’ expectations in the future.”
Gunn concludes, “One of the keys to our prolonged success and long-term relationships with customers has been our ability to continually identify beneficial improvements to our processes, to drive through these protocols and deliver sensible, cost-saving measures to our customers’ supply chains. The Lean logistics principles, to which I and my executive team are committed, have been, and will remain, crucial to these goals.”
