Con-way has proudly supported the National Red Ribbon Campaign since 1990. Organized by the National Family Partnership, the Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people each year. For five days every October, Con-way and its employees connect with an estimated 800,000 students in 1,100 schools across the country through events, presentations and other communications.
The Red Ribbon program was developed in recognition of the memory of U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agent Enrique Camarena, who was killed in Mexico during an undercover investigation. Through education and wearing the red ribbons, kids are encouraged to make positive choices in life, while giving them the courage to say “no” to drugs.
In addition to its support of numerous local charities, Con-way sponsors an annual United Way workplace fundraising campaign. Employees who wish to give to the United Way can make a one-time, lump-sum donation, or choose to have a designated amount automatically deducted from their paychecks each pay period. Con-way provides a dollar-for-dollar match, and then channels the donations to the local United Way chapters designated by each participating employee.
