Internet Security FAQ

What types of security does Con-way use on their site?

Portions of Con-way's Web site use a security certificate and a security protocol to protect information you send us and to protect the Con-Way Web site from unauthorized access.

What are security protocols?

Security protocols allow you to send and receive secured information. Both the Web site and your browser must use the same protocol in order for information to be secured. All secure Web sites support SSL2 (secured sockets layer 2).

Con-way uses secure sockets layer for encrypting information. Secure sockets layer is a system for automatically encrypting information as it is sent over the Internet and decrypting it before it is used.

To properly access Con-way's e-commerce applications, you will need to make sure that your browser is configured to handle this security protocol. Usually, you can view the configuration of your browser to quickly determine this.

What are security certificates?

A security certificate is a statement guaranteeing the identity of a person or the security of a Web site. A Web site certificate contains information warranting that a specific Web site is secure and genuine. This ensures that no other Web site can assume the identity of the original secure site. Web site certificates are also dated when they are issued. When you try to open an organization's Web site, your browser verifies the Internet address stored in the certificate and that the current date precedes the expiration date. If the information is not current and valid, your browser can display a warning or not allow access.

Depending upon your browser, you may notice an icon that indicates whether you are connected to a Web site that uses a security certificate. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, this icon is a "lock." In Netscape Navigator, this icon is a "key."

How do I configure my browser's security?

If you have questions regarding your browser's security configuration, you should contact your system administrator or technical support department for assistance. Con-way can attempt to help, but keep in mind that we are not familiar with your computer, network, Internet connection, etc.
